It seems a little known documentary movie, Mad Hot Ballroom, has given a boost to ballroom dancing, especially among the younger crowd. That’s just great as far as Burlington’s Robert Tang and Beverley Cayton-Tang, who run Dancescape, are concerned.
The movie, a surprise sleeper hit on the film festival circuit, tells a story from the perspective of a group of 10 and 11-year-old boys and girls on their way to a ballroom dance competition.
Also helping the ballroom dancing scene is another film, Shall We Dance? and a couple of television shows, Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance. And it didn’t hurt when Harry, Hermione, and Ron were featured dancing at the Yule Ball in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
