Discovery Landing at Spencer Smith Park Waterfront in downtown Burlington will be transformed into a two thousand square foot dance floor on Saturday, July 21st from 7 to 11 p.m. featuring Ballroom, Latin, and Lindy Hop Dance demonstrations and lessons.

Hammer Hoppers to Showcase Lindy Hop

“dance @ the Waterfront: Celebrate the Brant Inn, now in its seventh year, will celebrate the historical Sky Club and Brant Inn that was originally located where Discovery Landing sits today.  The event is brought to you by danceScape, the City of Burlington, Milton Concert Band (MCB) Swing Ensemble, and the Burlington Historical Society.


CHCH Television’s Entertainment Reporter, Alex Reynolds, will kick off the event at 7:15 p.m. with his memories of the Brant Inn. For four years, Mr. Reynolds hosted the weekly remote broadcasts from the Brant Inn that were broadcast coast to coast on the CBC radio network.

Former three-time Canadian and two-time North American Amateur Standard Ballroom Champions, Robert Tang and Beverley Cayton-Tang and their team of instructors and students from danceScape will demonstrate the Quickstep, Waltz, Foxtrot, Mambo, Salsa, and more. Hamilton’s “Hammer Hoppers” dance group will also present a fun Lindy Hop demonstration.  There will be complimentary lessons in the Cha Cha and Jive/Swing. 

Participants will be able to dance to the live Big Band music from the era of the Brant Inn, presented by the MCB Swing Ensemble.  The Band consists of talented amateur musicians who just love to play and drawn from all over Halton region. Led by Musical Director, Mel Prout, the swing ensemble consists of a suite of Brass, Woodwinds, Percussion and Rhythm sections. 

Fun spot and door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening, including danceScape’s “For Absolute Beginners Ballroom Dancing” 2-DVD set and The Burlington Historical Society’s “Brant Inn Memories” book and DVD.  The Burlington Historical Society will be at the event to showcase photographs and documents related to this and other historical facts about Burlington.
